Have you ever seen such hustle and bustle like Bangkok? Ever heard of Khao San Road? It's quite well known as the most famous street in South East Asia and for all the right reasons. Chang Beer T-Shirts, travelers from every corner of the world, tasty Pad thai, flashing lights and cocktail buckets, this metropolitan city and vibrant street life will tease your curiosity.

Make your way through the infectious energy, tightly packed stalls and lose yourself down mysterious side streets. Find the best Massage parlours and discover converted Volkswagen Campervan Bars. Live music and scorpions on sticks. I dare you to give them a try.

For those on a budget street food comes as cheap as you like. Most dishes will cost you 30/40THB ($1). Expect higher prices for Western style food.

Most bars have a unique look about them but some really stand out from the crowd. With affordable prices I recommend you get down to these top 3 bars: - Brick Bar. Great for a mixed bunch of faces, live music, singing along and of course a drinky dance dance. - Hippie De Bar. For those attracted to colourful patchwork, greenery and fairy lights this one is for you. It has more of an 80's classics and indie vibe for those looking to escape the early 00's that seem to suffocate you everywhere you go in Asia. - Gypsy's Lips Bar. Although not a Volkswagen Campervan, this bar is still a converted Bar on wheels. With its retro vibes and great cocktails pull up a stool and get to know the Bartender, they'll tell you secrets to Khao San Road.

If you want to overlook Bangkok head over to Bangkok Sky bar. You'll need to get a taxi but the view is worth it. Make sure to get there around 4-5 pm so you can experience a breathtaking sunset and still get a good seat.

We all love a lady boy (or not) and Bangkok is famous for them. We as ladies certainly are impressed when we see their petite frames. I've heard countless times "she's too pretty to be a lady boy" but don't be fooled boys! Some are more obvious than others. If you're looking for a little more than meets the eye, head down to Soi Cowboy, Soi 22, Silom (Patpong) or go to Nana Street (Sukhumvit Soi 4). You may meet on Tinder or after a relaxing massage. Whatever tickles your fancy, you will not feel out of place in Bangkok.

Beware of the guys selling tickets to the Ping Pong Show. You may laugh and joke at the list he's showing you but you'll be mortified seeing it in person. Now if you're wondering what I mean by a ping pong show, just imagine ladies using their flower to shoot all kinds of objects out of it. Including ping pongs. It certainly will be an experience to laugh about over the years and you definitely won't forget it. One thing to be wary of, I've heard from other travelers that they lock down the venue at the end and make tourists pay extra to leave. A massive scam and probably not worth the extra dollar.

Now for the budget breaker. The stalls. Although cheap you won't know when to stop. As soon as the lunch buzz dies down, friendly but persistent locals from all around Bangkok get ready for a long night of bartering. As you squeeze your way through the sticky, thick polluted air, copious amounts of people and the sweet smell of pancakes you'll find almost anything that you can squeeze into your backpack: clothing, footwear, bags, CDs, electronic devices, souvenirs and accessories. If you want a souvenir that lasts, you'll be tempted by the locals with tattoo guns or crochet hooks. Why not get yourself a head of dreads like I did? It only cost me $20. A root fix up normally costs double that and takes half the amount of time. Depending on the length of your hair you best get there early afternoon and come fully loaded with snacks if you're solo. You may be sat for as long as 7 hours. Bare in mind a tiny plastic chair will be your comfort for the entire sitting so you might want to take a cushion.

Northern Hill Tribes even make their way to Khao San for their weekly sales, providing hammocks, croaking ornamental frogs and ethnic head-wear and bracelets. You will be mortified but highly amused by the inscriptions on these bracelets. Never have I seen the word cock so much in my life.

As you can assume such busy touristy places become the hotspot for pick-pocketers, scams and ripoffs. Avoid buying expensive jewellery and tailored suits. Tuk tuk drivers will make money wherever they can. Always double check at your hostel or restaurant for rough pricing so you know what to go off. However, tuk tuks from Khao San Road are extremely overpriced, head a couple of streets out to the main road and grab one from there.

Bangkok like the rest of Thailand, is swarming with like minded travelers whom you can exchange travel plans/tips/stories over a tower of beer or a bucket of vodka. Happy travels.
